Richard Seymour + Dick Powell: Designing dream machines

This video showed each stages of how a product design process is, from research all the way to manufacture. By showing 3 different projects they had, the bsa scooter, the india scooter and the kettle+food mixer set, it showed that the importance of communication. First stage of the design process is research, you'll need to talk to your target consumer, the manufacturer, your client as well as research. Then you'll need to make communicating sketches, which can fully explain your ideas to your client. If your client approved, you'll have to make welly done foam models, which can communicate with yourself and fellow designers to see what can be improved. After that you'll make need to make a functional model that you can present to your client that shows what the real thing will be like. Every step in the design process is about how to communicate your ideas to your client, your co-workers and yourself. Even the final product is to communicate to your target consumer.
It was amazing to see how Seymour and Dick make so well communicated sketches and models. As well as the no limit brain storm session at the beginning of the video. As a first year industrial design student, this video is important for us to watch because it showed us how a designers design process should be and it told us how important "communication" is for design.
